Open Auditions July 18, 2010

Auditions are open to dancers aged 18+, regardless of gender. Please wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing suitable for practice. Bring a scarf or wrap to tie around your hips. No coin belts, please. Costume pieces are not recommended.

Auditions will be held in a class format. Dancers will participate in activities designed to highlight various skills such as: tribal fusion technique, the ability to learn choreography, stage presence, as well as basic slow and fast belly dance skills. You will learn and perform a short choreography.

Please provide a copy of your dance resume. This 1-page document should list your training, experience and performance history in belly dance as well as any other dance forms, theater and other performing arts. Please note any local teachers you have studied with or workshops you have attended. Include any special skills or talents such as costume design, theatrical lighting, et cetera.

In addition, dancers may prepare a 1-minute piece that best demonstrates your skill and expertise in belly dance. While this is not mandatory, this is your chance to show us what you love about this dance! This piece should be set to music which you provide and should highlight your talents as a dancer. We request that no props be used during this piece. Please be sure to bring your music on CD or iPod. This piece will be performed privately, and other dancers will be asked to wait outside of the dance studio during this time.

Rachel Heilman of Cold Fusion Tribal Dance is teaching an Introduction to Bollywood Dance Class. This class will cover the basics of ‘filmi’ dance ... the style and movement vocabulary you need to fuse an Indian flavor with your own area of specialty or to enter the multi-faceted world of filmi dance in more detail. Previous dance experience is not necessary ... bring yourself, comfortable clothes and bare feet.

The class will run for 6 weeks (no class July 7)

$80 for 6 weeks, or $15 drop in

Bollywood Language and Culture Class

Rachel Heilman of Cold Fusion Tribal Dance is teaching an informal, bi-weekly class on Bollywood Language and Culture.

Enjoy Hindi movies and Bollywood style dancing more fully ... learn some spoken Hindi! We’ll also focus on learning some of the cultural bits that make watching a Bollywood dance or movie more enriching. Each bi-weekly session we’ll focus on one or two Bollywood “music videos” to use as a vehicle for exploring the language and gaining a vocabulary. For those who are interested in studying the language more seriously, supplementary information and materials will be provided via e-mail—private lessons are also an option.

Class begins June 13. No class July 10. $5 donation per class.

Tribal Improv lessons

Cold Fusion encourages any dancer interested in Tribal Fusion to study Tribal Improv. The movements and techniques learned in Improv are the foundation of much of Tribal Fusion dance.

For local Tribal Improv instruction, Cold Fusion recommends (and studies with!) Joyce Young of Tribal Wallah..
