The members of Cold Fusion have various dance backgrounds, which include cabaret bellydance, Bollywood, hip hop, Bhangra, African, ballet, jazz, burlesque, tap and Odissi. Their years of experience show in the innovative choreographies.

Current Performers

Mary founded Cold Fusion Tribal Dance in the fall of 2006. Prior to Cold Fusion, she danced with Tundra Caravan and also performed Bollywood. In the fall of 2005, she joined Fleurs du Mal, a Fairbanks area burlesque troupe, and continues her involvement with them to this day. Mary has been dancing in one form or another for more than 25 years. She recalls some cringe-worthy moments captured on videotape as a young dancer.

Mary is the director and chief choreographer for Cold Fusion. "Meme" tries to stay as busy as possible, and has performed in several burlesque shows and is now venturing into ballroom dance.

Originally from the East Coast, Elizabeth’s entire dance experience before moving to Alaska consisted of exactly one semester of ballet in college; she got a B. Once she got to Fairbanks, she has attempted to make up for lost time by throwing herself into the Fairbanks Middle Eastern dance community. She originally studied traditional cabaret dance. Since then, "Jingles" has added Tribal Fusion and ballroom dance (both standard and Latin). Her backbend makes everyone jealous and she still thinks “crew” is a
legitimate dance background.

Rachel moved to Fairbanks in the summer of 2007. At her very first hafla, she wowed the members of Cold Fusion with her Bollywood dance technique. After a lunch meeting with Mary, "Biscuit" joined the troupe. She shares her knowledge by teaching Hindi as well as choreographies, and never turns down a chance for a Bollywood night. Go Team SRK!

Jessica dipped her toe into the world of fusion when she first took classes with Mary in the fall of 2007. After choosing to use "Pepper" for her audition song, Lamb joined the troupe in 2008. She recently returned from her studies in India, and brought us back bangles and new choreographies!

Jessenia has lived here in Fairbanks her whole life; she is 97 and looks great for her age. She confesses to even less ballet experience than Liz, having dropped out of Ballet I after accidentally kicking her instructor in the face.

Jessenia danced jazz and hip hop for several years, took a break to go to college and get some knowledge, and then took up Middle Eastern dance — an entirely new concept for her. She must not be too bad, because she dances with Cold Fusion and Tundra Caravan, and still finds time for ballroom dancing and losing her car keys.

She has done some theater work, and enjoys costumes and stage makeup. She looks like this every day.

Cold Fusion Alumni

Jennie is one of the founding members of Cold Fusion Tribal Dance. Her dance skills are only matched by her costuming skills. She can currently be found dancing with Tribal Wallah.

Joyce Young fulfilled a lifelong dream by moving to Alaska in 2008. Cold Fusion promptly assimilated her into their dance collective, as good geeks should. Joyce got the chance to boss around the troupe when she began teaching Tribal Style dance. After taking the plunge and opening Space for Movement Studio, Joyce had to step down from Cold Fusion. "Bogo" is the director of Tribal Wallah.

Caeli started bellydancing in 2001 in Denver, Colorado. She has studied under Joynan, Eva Cernik and Phoenix. She moved to Fairbanks in 2006 and joined Cold Fusion as well as the cabaret troupe Tundra Caravan. She studied cabaret dancing under both Souzana and Chandani and also studied Odissi under Meg Hunt.

In the fall of 2008, Caeli headed south. "Jellybean" is beloved and missed by all the dancers of Cold Fusion.
